“Be Pretty if you can, be Witty if you must, but be Gracious if it kills you.” – Else De Wolfe
What an awesome quote. First, let me just start this by saying that all of us are pretty. No one person owns that title. We are all pretty to somebody.
Not many of us have a great sense of humor – we are not born comediennes. Our personalities also play a role in how witty we might be. For instance, some of us are shy. Some of us are serious ‘most of the time’. While the remainder just has “it” – that thing where you can walk in a room and charm the room with your wit.
However, we can each find things that are humorous. Believe it or not some of us have a natural wit. Have you ever said anything that you never meant to be funny and people laugh? On the other hand, have you tried to be funny and everyone stared at you waiting for the punchline? To be honest, I believe that this has happened to all of us at least one time in our lives. Nevertheless, verbally delivering something with a smile goes a long way. So when all else fails, just smile and be friendly.
The definition of gracious is to be courteous, kind and pleasant. It takes nothing to be kind – even on days when you are not in a great mood. Being someone who is considered a person who is unkind – or who presents yourself that way – nullifies everything above. In other words, if you are pretty with a bad attitude, you are looked at as not as attractive as you were before you showed your true colors.
The message is to just be a kind-hearted good – natured human being above all else.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
