Let Your Observations Be Your Motivation
Do you truly know what you want in a relationship? Some of us watch romantic movies and these reality TV shows and convince ourselves that this is what we want our relationships to be. We want that final rose. We also want to ride off into the sunset to a life where there will be birds chirping every morning at our window, rose petals leading to the bedroom every night and no serious arguments.
If you watched that show Unreal, then you know that this drama reveals how some reality shows are manipulated for viewers, specifically, women viewers, to see the fairy tale. However, is this what you really want? Those who live in the real world no longer look to movies, TV or reality shows as a blueprint on how a relationship should be defined. One way to know exactly what you seek in a relationship is to look to those who are around you – real life couples not manufactured for our viewing pleasure.
We all have relatives, co-workers and friends. All anyone has to do is to quietly watch the couples around you. Just a simple observation can help you determine what you want from a relationship. Every couple operates differently. For instance, if one of the couples has one person in charge of all of the decisions, it is up to you to decide if that is what you want.
What if you want a traditional relationship? Say that one of your friends is in one and you see firsthand what that entails. You watch her cook and clean after she gets off her 9-5. Going out to dinner is a rarity, as he prefers a home cooked meal every day. You watch and confirm to yourself that this may not be the best relationship after all.
There are some positive things that can be added to your list of what you may want to incorporate into your own relationships. Like, one of the couples you know has date night every week.
Let your observations be your motivation. You will see that all relationships have positive and negative qualities. You may thank your lucky stars that your relationship is nothing like some couples. Alternatively, you may envy other couples because you would like to have what they have. As a single person, look to the ‘real’ relationships to comprise your list of things you want and/or don’t want for happy and successful relationships.
